It's no longer a Myth, it's a Game Changer!

Now let's get down to the nitty gritty details.

With the official specs that have now been released today (09 July 2020) The EOS R5 really is a jack of all trades!

At 45mp resolution, it would appeal to landscape & wedding photographers. 20fps Stills, now we're talking sports & wildlife photography. Architectural, Portraits, Fashion, the list just goes on and on.

Did we mention 8K Videos? Yep, the R5 can record 8K movies at nearly 30fps.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And the latest ‘leaked’ specs surely does a great job in creating a hype that will surely not disappoint. This Full Frame Mirrorless Camera of Canon is poised to possess features that far exceeds both its competitors as well as its predecessors.

Early rumours suggest that this ‘powerhouse’ mirrorless camera features the following mojo:

  1. 45MP CMOS sensor
  2. 5 – 8 stops of stability with in-body image stabilization (IBIS)
  3. burst speeds of up to 20fps via electronic shutter
  4. video recording @ 8K raw footage at 30fps
  5. video recording @ 4K raw footage at 120fps
  6. built-in 5GHz Wi-Fi
  7. Digic-X Processor

These features do sound very promising but there might be more to the Canon EOS R5. Rumours are going around that this feature-packed camera will rival and set a higher bar for its competing brands – Nikon, Sony, and Fujifilm. Check out more details below.

First of its kind

The Canon EOS R5 if the reported features hold true, will be among the first consumer-grade cameras to have 8kKvideo recording capabilities. This is especially vital as the ‘next wave’ of digital media appliances will also see an overall upgrade in resolution.

On top of its 8K30 capabilities, Canon will also include a much-requested In-body Image Stabilization (IBIS) feature, which is something other brands has done brilliantly in the past. Now that it’s only a matter of time before its release, the Canon EOS R5 will be an inevitable gamechanger in the mirrorless camera landscape.

A crystal-clear message

It is also reported all around the forums and rumour boards that EOS R5 is just the beginning of a greater age for a mirrorless camera. According to 9to5toys, “While the EOS R5 offers 8K capture and 4K120, according to leaked specifications, the R6 steps the 45MP sensor down to 20MP. This looks like it’ll be a more budget-friendly model of the R5, which is likely where many consumers will find a home.”

Following the many features of EOS R5 and its pegged successors, the message is very clear.

Mirrorless cameras are not a niche product anymore. It is now as mainstream as compact cameras in the old days as they are now becoming standard.

Canon EOS R5 Newly Designed Sensor

A closely guarded secret that was recently leaked is that the EOS R5 is one of the first to use Canon’s “newly designed sensor.” It’s interesting to note though that the camera is capable of capturing 8K videos and that should at least need a 7680 x 5120 pixels sensor, putting its resolution to at least 40MP. We’ll have to take this with a grain of salt and wait for Canon’s official word on this.

Fortunately for us, Canon did confirm a rumour that has long been going on. The mechanical shutter of the EOS R5 can shoot stills at 12fps bursts. With the silent shutter or Live View mode, it is capable of 20fps continuous shooting speed. This is good news as it beats it’s Sony and Nikon counterparts and enables its user to do wildlife and even sports photography.

High-Resolution Stills and Videos

Speaking of 8K videos, there’s actually more to that story. Last April, Canon mentioned that the EOS R5 can also shoot 4k videos at 120fps. Are you into those cool slow-motion shots? Or maybe you have a preference for doing some professional-looking dramatic videos? Then, the Canon EOS R5 is more than perfect. But wait, there’s actually more!

Aside from its high-quality videos, the camera’s Dual Pixel AF can be used in all video modes making easy to use for still photographers who would like to dabble in capturing awesome looking videos. Canon is also adapting to change quite well as it becomes one of the first to adopt super-high resolutions for video capture. However, it is unclear how Canon plans to handle the heat that is usually generated from taking high-quality videos.

 EOS R5 Connectivity

As with most modern cameras, the Canon EOS R5 will most likely have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Rumour has it that it is capable of transferring at a faster speed by using 5GHz Wi-Fi. However, it is still unclear if it will also support 2.4GHz. It is even more unclear if it will use Bluetooth 5.1 or an older version.

Good news though, Canon did confirm that the EOS R5 will have dual card slots – a CFexpress and an SD UHS-II. This means users can take advantage of fast data transfer speeds using the CFexpress but still have the option to use a more cost-effective SD UHS-II if needed.
