New Firmware Version 1.01 for Nikon D5300 and D5500 Provides Support for Nikkor AF-P DX 18-55mm Lenses

Firmware version 1.01 is now available for both the Nikon D5300 and the D5500 DSLR cameras. This update provides support for Nikon’s first DX lenses with stepping motors: the AF-P DX Nikkor 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6 and the AF-P DX Nikkor 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6 VR. Other bugs such as camera freezing have also been addressed in this new Nikon firmware. Likewise, the D5500 gets an a5 Manual focus ring with the firmware update.

Furthermore, the D5500 Firmware Version 1.01 eliminates noise that usually occurs every four seconds when external recorders are connected via HDMI in movie live view. It also corrects the issue wherein all shots after the first is overexposed when Exposure Smoothing is turned on during interval timer photography. Finally, this Nikon D5500 firmware update corrects the error of negative values for Exposure compensation not being reflected during the Retouch Menu – NEF (RAW) processing mode.

The issue with negative Exposure Compensation has also been addressed with the D5300 Firmware Version 1.01. Also, the update does away with the freezing of the camera during continued scrolling of the menus for some languages.

When it comes to the new AF-P DX Nikkor 18-55mm lenses, the Vibration Reduction function can be switched on or off via the Optical VR option in the Photo Shooting Menu which can be seen once the lens is attached to either the D5500 or the D5300. Meanwhile, the a5 Manual focus ring in AF mode is now available at the Custom Setting Menu once the AF-P DX Nikkor 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6 or the AF-P DX Nikkor 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6 VR is attached to the Nikon D5500.
