GoPro Hero 9 Black Price & Release Date

GoPro HERO9 Black Price & Release Date

Despite thousands of copies and knock-offs by other manufacturers, nothing beats the pioneer and trendsetter GoPro and its Hero series of action cameras. Now, the much-anticipated GoPro Hero 9 Black makes its presence known once again.

We believe the camera is about to launch within the next few weeks with a few leaks and rumours out of GoPro's control with a possible price tag below the thousand-dollar mark.

More Than Just a Rumor

Most businesses want to keep their flagships and "secret weapons" hidden from public view. Until they're ready to create all the theatrics and dramatization, they need to make sure people give their full attention; they want to hold it off as much as possible.

We've never known GoPro to be dramatic in their announcements. But, a leaked unboxing video of the GoPro Hero 9 camera ahead of any launch or press release is truthfully quite theatrical, whether it was GoPro's intention or not.

First appearing in Weibo as a viral video, the GoPro Hero 9 Black unboxing video is shot in good definition, meaning people who saw it genuinely believe it was the Hero 9. The video made its way worldwide after a Twitter account uploaded the complete unboxing video for the entire world to see.

In the video, the alleged GoPro Hero 9 Black has a netted hard case for its accessories. Additionally, the box has shock-proof moulds to hold the camera's battery, accessory bundle, and camera. The camera's front has the unmistakeable GoPro logo with the Hero 9 logo above its front colour display.

While the videomaker did not turn on his alleged GoPro Hero 9 Black unit, previously-found design and briefing documents support the idea that it has a front colour display. According to the documents, its battery can be 30% longer than its predecessor but with a smaller physical size.

An Open Mind and Ear

If you may recall, Roland Quandt's tweet, including a picture of the Hero 9 Black's protective replacement lens cover, shows that GoPro did listen to fans. Previously, GoPro's Hero cameras drew flak due to the lack of a lens cover.

In its advertising, GoPro claims the Hero cameras' lenses are debris, dust, and scratch-free. However, in real-world field use, it can still get damaged. Therefore, adding a protective lens cover allows GoPro Hero fans to purchase the Hero 9 with full confidence in a plastic protective cover that preserves the camera's lens.

Better But Limited Sensors

The reveal from Roland Quandt shows that the Hero 9 Black is to have a 23.6 MP sensor. We have yet to verify its sensor's final specs, but Quandt is confident that it's limited only to 20MP for photos. Additionally, Hero 9 will shoot videos at 5K with a 16:9 aspect ratio at 5,120x2,880.

Truthfully, most GoPro users aren't too particular about videos outside a 16:9 ratio. Most users will find this useful, especially when shooting action shots that require the right combination of portrait and landscape shots to establish them efficiently.

Touchy Touchy Touchy

The GoPro Hero 9 will likely have a rear touchscreen panel similar to the Hero 8. On the other hand, GoPro intends to expand its market to vloggers and YouTubers with its convenient front display camera. Like video-oriented mirrorless cameras, it makes for easier framing and portrait-style shot recordings.

Suppose you pair this with the top-notch performance of GoPro Hero 9's rumoured (and should possibly be) greatly-improved video stabilization features. In that case, Hero 9 users can expect a shake and blur-free recording.

Additionally, the Hero 9 Black should come with an updated TimeWarp 3.0. Plus, the Hero 9 Black's convenient webcam mode makes it an excellent investment when you're stuck doing work or doing some online live stream shows.

A Justifiable Longer Battery Life

GoPro Hero 9 Black will highly likely have a longer-lasting, highly capable battery than the previous GoPro Hero 8 Black, which had a 1220mAh battery. According to professional estimates, the Hero 9 Black will possibly have a 1720mAh battery, about 41% larger in capacity if you compare it with the Hero 8 Black.

Most look forward to this improvement because of the Hero 9 Black's power-consuming 20MP sensor. Plus, with the existing quick-charge technology available nowadays, it's genuinely a considerable possibility that Hero 9 will incorporate it.

Verifying Tall Tales and Found Footage

GoPro has previously tweeted on September 13, 2020, that it's set to launch the GoPro Hero 9 Black by September 16, 2020. As of this writing, the official GoPro communication and social network channels have yet to announce the price. However, we won't be surprised if Hero 9 Black has a heftier price tag than its predecessors because of its highly-anticipated new and useful features.

Truthfully, GoPro Hero 9 Black's launch headline is "more everything." While it can mean more everything price-wise, it will definitely mean more everything feature and use-wise. Until GoPro finally makes its official launch, we're left to get excited (or disappointed) with the rumoured new features reports say it has.
