With its superior 1:1 lifesize image quality in photography, Tamron SP AF 90mm F/2.8 Di Macro Lens w/ Bonus Hoya 55mm UV Filter offers an astounding sharpness complimented by fascinating blur effects. The additional Vibration Compensation gives sharp imaging in lesser light, compensating the camera blur on longer shutter speed. The lens' Ultrasonic Silent Drive generates a smooth and fast AF movement paired by the DMF (Direct Manual Focus) enabling fine-tuning whenever necessary. There are also two XLD (Extra Low Dispersion) glass elements and one LD (Low Dispersion) element combined to the lens' aperture with 55 Filter Diameter to correct aberrations. It is compatible with APS-C and Full Frame Sensor DSLR Cameras.
Product Features in Detail
Powerful resolution with beautiful blur effects
Two XLD (Extra Low Dispersion) glass elements made from specialised, high-grade glass and one LD (Low Dispersion) element combine to thoroughly correct aberration. As well, the rounded diaphragm shape at wide apertures delivers spectacular blur of out-of-focus objects. Pinpoint focus on the subject and soft, natural-looking blur in foregrounds and backgrounds combine for images with a richer, more satisfying ambience.
Super Performance for Discriminating Shooters
Tamron SP (Super Performance) series is a line of ultra-high-performance lenses designed and manufactured to the exacting specifications demanded by professionals and others who require the highest possible image quality. In creating SP lenses Tamron’s optical designers put their foremost priority on achieving superior performance parameters—they are all designed to a higher standard with little regard for cost constraints. As a result, Tamron lenses bearing the SP designation feature impressive and innovative designs that have established an enviable reputation for excellence among those knowledgeable photographers that demand the very best.
Widely Acclaimed Macro Lens is now Ideal for Film and Digital Photography
Tamron introduces a new version of the famous 90mm macro lens for film and digital photography. Tamron's 90mm macro lens, often referred to as "the portrait macro" and loved by photographers all over the world, is now reborn as a Di lens that is perfect for use with both film and digital cameras. The coating of the lens is improved for digital use.
New Standard of Lenses for Digital Cameras
"Di" (Digitally Integrated Design) is a designation Tamron puts on lenses featuring optical systems designed to meet the performance characteristics of digital SLR cameras as well as film cameras. When mounted on an APS-C size digital SLR camera, it provides a focal length coverage equivalent to 140mm, close to telephoto macro lens.
Improved External Design and Easy Handling Focus Ring
The external design is improved as one of the Di series of lenses. The focusing ring features an improved rubber pattern that fits your hand well and makes the lens easier to handle. The lens is also equipped with a one-touch switchover mechanism to quickly perform one-touch switchover from AF to MF by simply sliding the focus ring back and forth. (For Nikon AF-D and Canon AF mounts only.)
Vibration Compensation (Compensates for camera blur on long shutter speeds – for sharp images in much less light)
Tamron's unique VC mechanism uses a proprietary actuator and algorithms to deliver an extremely stable viewfinder image with excellent tracking. The tri-axial system uses three driving coils to move internal optical components within the VC lens electromagnetically, based on signals originating from three ball bearings, made from either steel or ceramic. The VC lens elements are held in place only by contact with the balls, achieving smooth movement with minimal friction.
Tamron's original moving magnet system employed a heavy magnet positioned near the moving VC lens element. The improved VC reverses the positions of magnet and coil and attaches the VC optic to the coil. This moving coil is lighter than the magnet, and as this reduces the load on the drive system, both the VC unit and the lens are lighter and more compact.
Ultrasonic Silent Drive ('Travelling waves' generate a fast, smooth AF movement)
Watch this feature in action on our YouTube channelTamron’s USD works with the high-frequency ultrasonic vibrations that are produced by a ring called a ‘stator’. Energy from the vibrations is used to rotate an attached metallic ring known as the ‘rotor’. Piezoelectric ceramic is a material that produces ultrasonic vibrations when voltage of a specific frequency is applied is arranged in a ring formation on the stator. This electrode configuration of piezoelectric ceramic causes two ultrasonic vibrations to occur in the stator. By effectively combining these two ultrasonic vibrations, it is possible to convert the energy from the vibrations that produce simple motion into energy known as ‘deflective travelling waves’, which move around the circumference of the ring. The friction between these deflective travelling waves created on the metallic surface of the stator and the surface of the rotor produces force, causing the rotor to rotate. Attached to the rotor is the focusing lens, which is given a fast, smooth autofocus movement.
Fine manual focus adjustments can be made quickly and easily
The USD motor is complemented by DMF (Direct Manual Focus) to enable manual fine-tuning after autofocusing if and when necessary. No need to engage a switch – just gently rotate the focus ring on the lens.
New eBAND (extended Bandwidth & ANgular-Dependency) Coating
This new coating technique developed by Tamron deploys a nano-structured* layer with dimensions smaller than the wavelengths of visible rays of light. Its ultra-low refractive index, combined with the sophisticated multiple-layer coatings underneath, yields significant anti-reflection properties, absolutely minimising flare and ghosting to deliver sharp, crisp images.
