The Sony NEX-VG900 Full-Frame Camcorder offers a 24.3MP Full Frame 35mm Exmor CMOS Sensor to fully employ your artistic potential using interchangeable lenses. Its resolution is 40 times larger than its equivalent in standard video cams and more than two times of the APS-C sensor in other interchangeable lens cameras. This camcorder is both E-Mount Lens Compatible and A-Mount Lens Compatible via Adapter. The Tru-Finder OLED Electronic Viewfinder frames your subject more accurately and reduces motion blur. The integrated Quad Capsule Spatial Array microphone can record with front and back directions as well as 5.1-channel surround sound with impressively low noise and high clarity. Some other features include Picture Effect Modes, Cinematone Gamma / Color, Seesaw Lever Smooth Zoom, and an Uncompressed 1080 HDMI Output.

24.3 megapixel 35mm full-frame Exmor CMOS sensor with progressive recordings
The NEX-VG900E has a large CMOS image sensor that is the same area as a full 35mm film frame. This enables you to create clear, low-noise images with a narrower depth-of-field, providing excellent selective focus control. The camcorder allows you to shoot in high-resolution AVCHD version 2.0 standard 50p mode, or in 24p mode with Cinema Tone Gamma™/Cinema Tone Color™ for a film-like look that offers broad expressive potential. There is also a range of new picture effects that can be used to “personalise” your creations without the need for further editing.

XLR-K1M XLR audio input adaptor with ECM-XM1 microphone for even further sound recording versatility and enhanced audio quality
The XLR-K1M XLR audio input adaptor kit is supplied with the NEX-VG900/PRO package. It features the XLR-K1M adaptor and ECM-XM1 bidirectional monaural microphone. The microphone and adaptor attach to the camcorder via its Multi Interface Shoe.

Outstanding imagery with full-frame A-mount interchangeable lenses
The NEX-VG900 makes it possible to take advantage of an extensive range of lenses for broad expressive capability in a wide range of video shooting situations. It directly mounts high-quality E-mount lenses, and with the supplied LA-EA3 adaptor can also mount full-frame lenses from the thorough Sony A-mount lens line-up, delivering their full angle of view as well as allowing manual focus to be used for cinematic follow focus effects.

XGA OLED electronic viewfinder (Tru-Finder)
High-contrast monitoring with natural colour rendition, and a zoom seesaw lever for both variable and constant speed electronic zooming that is comfortable and easy to use while shooting.

Zoom seesaw lever supports 2x electronic zoom
The NEX-VG900 features a zoom seesaw lever that is easily accessible while holding the camcorder in the normal way. With optional lenses that feature built-in zoom drive* the lever controls optical zoom, and with non-zoom lenses it controls electronic zoom (up to 2x, speed variable in 32 steps). This allows slow, smooth zooming that is almost impossible to achieve when zooming manually, for added creative control and pro-quality imagery.

Operation and design optimised for video shooting
The NEX-VG900 grip is designed to fall easily into the palm of the hand when the camera is held in shooting position. The grip strap is large for comfort, and has been carefully designed to offer the greatest possible stability. Low-angle shots can be handled comfortably by gripping the NEX-VG900 from above and rotating the LCD monitor to a position at which it can be easily viewed. The second start/stop and focus magnification buttons are easily accessible from this position as well. When shooting in bright outdoor conditions simply moving your eye to the eye sensor equipped viewfinder automatically switches from monitor to viewfinder for easier viewing. A control dial on the side of the unit enables adjustment of manual settings while the LCD monitor is in the closed position.

Comprehensive manual controls
Aperture priority, shutter speed priority, or manual exposure control can be easily controlled via direct keys that have been carefully designed and positioned for optimum accessibility. Zebra pattern display is provided for extra adjustment accuracy. In situations where AF doesn’t lock onto the desired subject, the user can switch to manual mode and accurately make the necessary focus adjustment while using the peaking function and one-touch focus magnification button provided on the top of the grip.

Large, high-resolution touch-panel monitor
The LCD monitor is a large “Xtra Fine” 3.0 type with 920,000 dot resolution, wide 16:9 aspect ratio, and LED backlighting. Fine subject details and tonal gradations are faithfully reproduced, making it easy to focus with accuracy while viewing the LCD monitor. The NEX-VG900 monitor additionally functions as a touch-panel for efficient, intuitive operation.

Headphone jack
Accurate sound monitoring capability is important to ensure that top-quality sound is being recorded to match the visual imagery. The NEX-VG900 features a headphone jack that allows direct headphone monitoring of the sound being recorded.

Extended recording times
The supplied NP-FV70 will allow operation for more than two hours*, or the optional NP-FV100 battery can be used for more than five hours* operation.

Quad Capsule Spatial Array Microphone for high-quality stereo / 5.1 surround sound
The NEX-VG900 features a unique Quad Capsule Spatial Array Microphone that is comprised of four independent microphone capsules in a special configuration. A level meter on the LCD panel allows accurate visual level monitoring so that appropriate adjustments can be made as required. Played back on a high-quality home theatre system, the combination of beautiful imagery and stunning sound adds up to a memorable viewing experience.

Optional lighting options
The Multi Interface Shoe makes it possible to use an add-on flash for bounce lighting, high-speed sync, and other professional lighting techniques, thus answering the needs of many users who want to shoot top-quality video while being able to achieve the same exquisite image quality in still capture as well.

APS-C mode allows shooting with E-mount and A-mount DT lenses
Switching to the APS-C mode allows the full-frame NEX-VG900 sensor to function as an APS-C size sensor. When the auto APS-C mode is selected, the NEX-VG900 automatically switches to APS-C mode when an E-mount or A-mount DT lens is mounted.

DSLR-class still images with RAW capture capability
The NEX-VG900 employs a 24.3 megapixel 35mm full-frame Exmor CMOS image sensor that can capture DSLR-class still images as well as videos. Up to three images can be shot per second with high-level still camera quality. RAW format is supported so the user has full access to the widest possible range of post-processing options to bring his or her creative vision to realisation.

LA-EA3 adaptor for full-frame A-mount lenses supplied
The NEX-VG900/PRO comes supplied with an LA-EA3 adaptor that allows mounting of full-frame A-mount lenses, allowing wide angle shooting at the lens’s designed focal length (i.e. no “equivalent” focal length due to a smaller sensor), and delicate use of defocusing that is only possible with a full-frame system.

Memory card slot accepts two types of memory cards
In addition to Memory Stick PRO Duo (Mark 2), Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo, and Memory Stick XC-HG Duo type memory cards, the NEX-VG900 supports a number of SD card types so that users can select memory cards that best match the computer and peripherals they use as well as their workflow, for maximum convenience and versatility.
