The FX5 supports versatile recording formats, including Open Gate capture, multiple image scan modes, and internal X-OCN compressed RAW recording, providing maximum flexibility for post-production and cinematic workflows. High-speed recording capabilities include 5K recording at up to 60 fps and 4K recording at up to 120 fps, enabling stunning slow-motion footage while maintaining exceptional image quality.

Powered by the BIONZ XR2™ processor with integrated AI, the FX5 offers advanced autofocus and intelligent subject tracking with AI subject recognition, delivering precise focus performance for both solo operators and professional crews. Precise, reliable AF and tracking with AI-based subject recognition
With built-in AI processing, the BIONZ XR2 engine accurately recognises human, animal and bird eyes (Real-time Eye AF)18. Fast Hybrid AF uses up to 759 points29 to support confident focusing in demanding situations, including darker scenes. Real-time Tracking also helps the camera stay with the subject smoothly and precisely, even when depth of field is shallow.


Built-in de-squeeze for anamorphic shooting
Built-in de-squeeze support makes anamorphic shooting easier on set. With 1.3x, 1.5x, 1.6x, 1.8x and 2.0x settings, the FX5 works smoothly with a wide range of anamorphic lenses.


Deep learning-based illumination estimation
Deep-learning-based illumination estimation achieves unprecedented Auto Tracing White Balance (ATW) accuracy, even in challenging scenes. It delivers accurate colour reproduction even under lighting conditions that previously tended to cause colour cast.


S-Cinetone™ for a refined cinematic look
S-Cinetone brings Sony cinema colour science to the FX5, delivering natural skin tones, smooth gradation and a polished look straight out of camera.


Wide-gamut colour for more grading control
With colour gamuts exceeding both BT.2020 and DCI-P3, S-Gamut3 and S-Gamut3.Cine retain broad colour information for more precise grading and easier colour matching with VENICE 2 in multi-camera shoots. Smooth tonal expression and stable colour reproduction also help you achieve the intended look with greater accuracy.


Three S-Log3 modes for flexible workflows
From cinematic shoots to run-and-gun, choose Cine EI, Cine EI Quick or Flexible ISO30 to capture imagery with maximum latitude. You can also import up to 16 user LUTs31 allowing you to monitor the intended look while shooting.


Lightweight, compact design for agility on set
The compact flattop body and stable grip are built for comfortable handheld work. Paired with Sony's compact lenses, the FX5 becomes a mobile system for flexible shooting with gimbals, in tight spaces and in fast-moving productions.


5-axis stabilisation for steadier handheld shooting
A precision stabilisation unit and gyro sensors combine to provide optical 5-axis in-body stabilisation. An enhanced stabilisation unit expands the roll-direction compensation range by up to 2x, effectively reducing handheld roll shake32. Dynamic active Mode33 adds extra electronic support, and embedded stabilisation metadata can also be used in post-production34 for a more controlled final result.


High-quality 96 kHz / 32bit float audio recording
The XLR handle unit35 supports two XLR/TRS inputs, a 3.5 mm stereo mini jack and up to 96 kHz / 32bit float audio recording. With up to four channels of high-quality capture, it also supports independent 32bit float WAV recording alongside video audio for more flexible on-set sound workflows.


Optional OLED viewfinder DVF-EL1 for easier outdoor monitoring
Add the optional OLED viewfinder36 for more immersive monitoring in bright locations. Its 3.5-type panel features approx. 7.07 million dots, DCI-P3 equivalent colour gamut, 10-bit display, HDR monitoring support, and 0.90x magnification37, while the 0°-90° tilting design and selectable display modes help adapt monitoring to different shooting styles.


3.5-type monitor with 4-axis multi-angle design
The 3.5-type 16:9 aspect monitor tilts 98° up, 40° down and 180° sideways, and rotates up to 270° when open38. A high-brightness panel with 15 brightness settings, fine control of image inversion display, and neatly organised on-screen shooting information all help make monitoring clearer and more flexible on set.


BIG6 (HOME) screen for faster on-set control
Inherited from Sony’s high-end CineAlta cameras, the BIG6 (HOME) screen brings six essential settings — frame rate, EI/ISO/Gain, shutter, iris, LUT and white balance — together on one clear home screen for faster operation. Touch control, the multi-function dial, and CineAlta Fixed/Variable frame-rate control help crews work quickly while keeping critical settings visible at a glance.


Monitoring support for precise shooting
Exposure and focus tools, including Waveform Monitor, Histogram, False Color, and Focus Map, support faster judgments on set. They help you manage highlights, shadows, skin tones and critical focus with confidence.39


Movie-first menus and controls
From menu settings to the CineAlta-style multi-function dial, the FX5 is designed around movie production. Frequently used controls are concentrated around the grip and top panel, and the multi-function dial supports both rotational and push operation for faster access to key settings during a shoot.


Clear tally visibility
Configurable front and rear tally lamps make REC/STANDBY status easier to see, and a red frame can also be shown on the monitor during recording. This helps you confirm recording status at a glance, even when a rig or gimbal makes the screen harder to view directly.


Clear Image Zoom for smoother, more intuitive framing
Clear Image Zoom adds a [Smooth Priority] mode40 that enables seamless zoom from the optical wide end up to 2x digital zoom41. [Optical Zoom Priority] is a zoom mode that prioritises image quality. After the optical zoom reaches its telephoto end, Clear Image Zoom takes over. Seamless zooming can also be controlled from the zoom ring on compatible lenses for more intuitive, consistent framing.


Dual CFexpress Type A/SD card slots for flexible media workflows
Dual CFexpress Type A42 slots support relay, simultaneous, and separated recording while also accepting SDXC (UHS-II/UHS-I) cards. Main and proxy files can be recorded to different slots, giving productions more flexibility in media choice, backup strategy, and file handling.


Power that keeps pace with long shoots
A high-capacity 2670 mAh NP-SA100 43 battery can provide up to 170 minutes44 of recording time. Optimised power management, improved charging speed45, USB Power Delivery46 and battery condition display help simplify longer shooting days and make it easier to judge when battery replacement may be needed.


Durable, sealed body design
Refinements throughout maximise dust and moisture resistance for high reliability in demanding conditions.47 Sealing is used at exterior joints and around the battery cover to help prevent moisture and dust ingress, and the cooling fan is housed in a separate chamber for added protection.


Cooling designed for uninterrupted 170 minutes47 of recording
An efficient fan cooling system and advanced design deliver up to 3x48 the airflow, keeping the camera cool even when the LCD monitor is closed. Three fan modes [Auto], [Minimum] and [OFF in REC] let you balance cooling and operational noise to suit the environment and the production.


Flexible mounting points49
Five screw holes for accessory mounting are provided around the body, with two more on the bottom for tripod mounting. The result is a body that is easier to rig and expand directly with essential accessories.


Monitor & Control for remote operation from mobile devices
With the Monitor & Control app, a smartphone, tablet or Mac becomes a flexible second screen for monitoring, camera settings and operation. It is a simple way to extend control for solo shooting, compact rigs, and other productions where flexible remote operation is useful.


Catalyst Prepare and Catalyst Prepare Plugin
Catalyst Prepare and Catalyst Prepare Plugin use camera metadata for fast shot review and correction. They provide format support, including X-OCN LT/C1/C2, along with key features such as stabilisation, lens breathing compensation, colour/LUT tools and transcoded export.


Flexible monitoring, power and timecode connections
The HDMI Type A output port supports flexible external monitoring, with the option to display shooting information on both the camera LCD and an external monitor, or separate status information from the image output. Dual USB Type-C® ports support power delivery and timecode input via an optional adapter cable.50


Wired and wireless LAN connectivity for remote workflows
High-speed wired LAN and built-in Wi-Fi 802.11ax with 2×2 MIMO on 6 / 5 / 2.4 GHz bands51 support smoother remote control, file transfer and connected production workflows. Wired LAN support for 2.5GBASE-T, 1000BASE-T and 100BASE-TX also helps the FX5 slot more easily into modern multi-device and networked productions.


Accessibility features for more creators
Screen reader52 support, a menu magnifier, and other accessibility aids help make the FX5 easier to use for more creators. The lens mount index, multi-function dial, and buttons are designed so they can be easily located by touch, supporting more confident operation.


Recycled materials in Cameras
At Sony, our Road to Zero plan53 aims to achieve a zero environmental footprint by 2050. We use SORPLAS™, our durable, high-quality recycled plastic material, wherever possible to reduce stress on the environment without compromising performance. More than 30%54 of this product is made of recycled plastic, including SORPLAS. Our imaging product manufacturing facilities in Thailand and China also operate on 100% renewable energy55.


Non-plastic packaging materials
Sony is working towards the use of non-plastic packaging materials56 that provide ample protection against shock and impact. We use plant-based non-woven fabrics for product bags, further reducing plastic usage and minimising environmental stress.


Planned post-launch support
Updates are planned to add support for HFR shooting up to 240 fps in X-OCN, XAVC S‑I recording in a 3:2 aspect ratio with full-sensor readout, an optimised user interface for vertical shooting, and a frame grab function.
