Pre-Capture for key moments prior to shutter release14
Capture the decisive moment — even after it happens. Half-press the shutter button to set focus, then fully press to record a burst of images from 0.03 to 1 second15 after the initial half-press.


Temporarily boost speed while shooting bursts
During continuous burst shooting, press an assigned custom button to change the shooting speed — for example, from 10 fps to 30 fps16 — when the key moment approaches. This feature can be used even while shooting single frames.


Real-time Recognition AF+ for more tenacious tracking

Choose from Human, Animal, Bird, Insect, Car/Train, or Airplane17 mode, or let Auto detect the subject type.18 Even when Subject Recognition is turned off, Sony’s original algorithm processes multiple data points for reliable tracking.

Fast readout and processing deliver notably improved AF. 75919 phase detection points cover about 94% of the image area for precise focusing for shooting stills, even when the subject is small in the frame.


Precise AF in low light
Enjoy reliable AF at light levels as low as EV-620, or EV-1121 with Bright Monitoring enabled. The AF can also be limited to long-distance ranges for shooting low-light distant scenes.22


Flexible focus area settings
Choose from XL, L, M, S, and XS spot focus area sizes, or create a custom vertical focus area. The XS setting assists focusing on the subject when objects are in the foreground.


Temporarily switch from AF to MF with Full Time DMF23
When shooting stills with AF, rotating the lens's focus ring temporarily switches to manual focus for fine-tuning or shifting the focus to the desired subject.


Optimum focus on difficult subjects with Focus Bracketing24
Up to 299 images are automatically shot at specified focus increments. The best focus can then be selected, or the images can be composited in post-production for extreme depth of field.


Flicker-free images in artificial light
Anti-flicker Shooting25 prevents exposure and color variations caused by artificial lighting, and High-frequency Flicker-free Shooting adjusts the shutter speed for best results in LED-lit settings.

8K 30p28, 29 movies can be recorded in XAVC HS format with 8.2K oversampling offering spectacular resolution. This is further enhanced by precision AF performance, along with natural gradations and colors. 8K also supports 4:2:2 10-bit recording.


Dual Gain Shooting for enhanced editing flexibility
Leveraging the sensor's tonal range, Dual Gain Shooting delivers wider latitude with detailed shadows, low noise, and smooth video gradations for enhanced editing flexibility.30


S-Log3 supports post-production workflows
The S-Log3 gamma curve maintains smooth gradations for more effective post processing. S-Gamut3 and S-Gamut3. Cine color spaces are supported, and S-Cinetone™ and imported user LUTs offer a finished look without grading.

Sony’s original Clear Image Zoom technology stabilizes the angle of view when focusing, minimizing breathing. Compensation can also be applied via the Catalyst BrowseTM and Catalyst PrepareTM applications or the Catalyst Prepare PluginTM during post-production.

4-axis multi-angle monitor
Sony's 4-axis multi-angle monitor swings up, down, and sideways, and is easily adjustable for the optimum viewing angle. The 3.2-type 2.1 million dot LCD panel is touch sensitive and has a DCI-P3-equivalent color gamut, displaying clear, natural images.

Our durable, high-quality recycled plastic material SORPLAS™ is used as much as possible t o reduce stress on the environment without compromising performance. More than 22%57 of this product is made of recycled plastic, including SORPLAS. Additionally, Sony Group manufacturing facilities57 run on 100% renewable energy.


Recyclable non-plastic packaging materials
We are working towards the use of non-plastic packaging materials58 that provide ample protection against shock and impact. We ship the α7R VI in a plastic-free package made of an Original Blended Material that can be recycled as paper.59 We also use plant-based non-woven fabrics product bags to further reduce the plastic use and minimize environmental stress.
