Nikon NIKKOR Z 40mm f2 (SE) Lens

The Nikon NIKKOR Z 40mm f2 (SE) Lens is a super-wide angle prime lens designed for full frame FX format Nikon Z cameras. The 40mm focal length provides a very wide field of view and allows users to get close to the subject without having to physically move closer. This is ideal for shooting street photography or documentary style photography where the photographer wants to remain inconspicuous.

The lens is a special edition version of the original NIKKOR Z and has been rebranded as such on the front barrel. The front of the lens also features a retro design with an old-fashioned looking logo and typeface that hark back to old Nikon lenses from the past.

The lens uses an internal stepping motor autofocus system for fast, quiet focusing performance that can lock onto subjects quickly even when shooting in low light conditions or at maximum aperture. It also features a programmable control ring that can be programmed with one of 10 user selectable functions (including zoom) so it can be used without having to use the camera's dedicated controls.

The lens's nine-blade rounded aperture helps create smooth bokeh effects in out of focus areas while keeping sharpness across the image plane throughout the entire aperture range from f/2 through f/16 and provides a 40mm focal length (equivalent to 50mm in 35mm format).

Aspherical Lens
A lens with a curved, non-spherical surface. Used to reduce aberrations and enable a more compact lens size. Aspherical lenses minimize coma and other types of lens aberrations, even when used at the widest aperture. They are particularly useful in correcting distortion in wide-angle lenses and help contribute to a lighter, more compact design by reducing the number of standard (spherical) elements necessary. Aspherical lens elements correct these distortions by continuously changing the refractive index from the center of the lens.

Super Integrated Coating
Nikon Super Integrated Coating is Nikon's term for its multilayer coating of the optical elements in NIKKOR lenses.

IF Lens
A NIKKOR lens in which only the internal lens group shifts during focusing. Thus, IF NIKKORS do not change in size during AF operation, allowing for compact, lightweight lenses capable of closer focusing distances. These lenses will be designated with the abbreviation IF on the lens barrel.

Stepping Motor
NIKKOR Z lenses use a stepping motor for fast, accurate, smooth, quiet autofocus with reduced wobbling. This quiet drive system makes the lenses ideal for use when shooting video.

Electromagnetic Diaphragm Mechanism
An electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism in the lens barrel provides highly accurate electronic diaphragm or aperture blade control when using auto exposure during continuous shooting.
