The Laowa 15mm f/4 Wide Angle Macro with Shift for Sony A-mount (Minolta AF) is a versatile optical tool that bridges the gap between extreme macro photography and architectural correction. It holds the distinction of being the first ultra-wide lens to achieve true 1:1 life-size magnification while maintaining the ability to focus to infinity. This allows you to capture a tiny subject—like an insect or flower—just millimeters from the glass, while the 110° field of view keeps the entire background environment in the frame.

Beyond its macro prowess, this lens features a built-in +/- 6mm shift mechanism when used on APS-C sensors (or in crop mode on full-frame Sony bodies like the A99 II). This function allows you to physically slide the lens elements vertically to correct "converging lines," ensuring that buildings and interior walls appear perfectly straight rather than leaning backward. Housed in a robust, all-metal barrel with a 14-blade diaphragm, this lens offers a tactile, fully manual shooting experience for photographers who demand creative precision.

Product Features in Detail

Environmental Macro Storytelling
Traditional macro photography often "deletes" the background. This lens does the opposite—it allows you to show the subject's habitat. You can have a ladybug filling the frame while still seeing the entire meadow and sky behind it, creating a deep sense of scale.

Physical Perspective Correction
When tilting a camera up to shoot a tall building, the top appears narrower than the base. By keeping the camera level and using the Shift function, you can "raise" the frame to include the top of the building while keeping the vertical lines perfectly parallel.

The "Flat Front" Advantage
Unlike many ultra-wide lenses with protruding "bulb" elements, the Laowa 15mm has a flat front element. This allows for a standard 77mm filter thread, making it easy to attach circular polarizers or ND filters for landscape work.

Tactile Manual Control
Designed for the "slow photography" movement, this lens is fully manual. The weighted focus ring has a long throw, allowing for the extreme precision required when your depth of field is only a fraction of a millimeter thick at 1:1 magnification.

Exceptional Bokeh for Wide Angle
Wide-angle lenses aren't usually known for bokeh, but at f/4 and 1:1 magnification, the background melts away beautifully. The 14 aperture blades ensure that even when stopped down, out-of-focus light orbs remain soft and circular.

Mirrorless Compatibility
While this is a Sony A-mount lens, it is a favorite for Sony E-mount (A7/A6000 series) users. Because it is fully manual, a simple "dumb" adapter or the Sony LA-EA series allows it to function perfectly on modern mirrorless bodies with focus peaking.
