The EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM has an aperture of 16-35mm f/2.8 and is water-resistant, with high performance, ultra-wide-angle Canon L-series lens, and a filter size of 82mm, P=0.75mm/1 filter. It was made specifically for improved edge-to-edge image quality that will meet the requirements of high-end amateur and professional photographers. The lens features 3 high-precision aspherical lens elements, 16 elements in 12 groups, each of a different type: replica, GMo, and ground for even better image quality than the older EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM. Its circular aperture produces a vibrant and natural background blur when utilizing its wider apertures. Other features are internal focusing, new AF algorithms for fast and quiet autofocusing (with manual override), and a ring type USM (Ultra Sonic Monitor).

Constant f/2.8 aperture
A fast f/2.8 maximum aperture stays constant over the full focal-length range, meaning no variation in SHUTTER SPEED will occur when zooming.
Ultrasonic focusing
A ring-type ultrasonic MOTOR DRIVES autofocus extremely quickly, and in near silence. Excellent holding torque ensures the point of focus is reached accurately, without overshooting. Furthermore, full-time manual override is available, making it possible to adjust focus without leaving AF mode.
Smooth background blur
A virtually circular aperture diaphragm gives out of focus regions a softer, MORE uniform feel. Sharp foreground objects stand out against a smooth blurred background.
UD and aspherical elements
The EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM incorporates three aspherical elements to ensure corner-to-corner sharpness and clarity throughout the focal range. Two UD (Ultra Low Dispersion) elements virtually eliminate chromatic aberrations.
Super Spectra coating
Super Spectra coatings ensure accurate colour balance and enhance contrast. They also reduce flare and ghosting – a common problem caused by light bouncing off a camera's sensor.
Integration with E-TTL II flash metering
Ensures optimal flash metering by passing distance information back to a compatible EOS camera's E-TTL II flash system.
