The RF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM Lens from Canon is a super telephoto prime lens suitable for sports, wildlife, and bird photography applications. Featuring an advanced optical design, it incorporates one fluorite element, two UD elements, a Super UD element, and two aspherical elements to control chromatic and spherical aberrations throughout the aperture range as well as reduce color fringing and distortion for increased clarity and sharpness. A Super Spectra coating has also been applied to suppress lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.

Complementing the optics is an Optical Image Stabilizer system that minimizes the appearance of camera shake by up to five stops to better allow working with slower shutter speeds. An Air Sphere Coating has also been applied to lens elements facing the front of the lens to reduce backlit flaring by deflecting water droplets, dirt particles, or grease off the lens surface.

Benefitting stills shooting, especially outdoors or in inclement weather, this lens uses a dust- and water-resistant construction with individual seals on the focus ring, Control Ring, switch panel, and mount for increased protection against moisture and dust. Additionally, a fluorine coating has also been added on front element to repel moisture, dust, and fingerprints and also makes the lens easier to clean.
