Sony's new Alpha A6600 camera took nine years in the making. Sony has been constantly refining the feature set and performance of this camera. The Alpha A6600 is Sony's newest and top of the line APS-C camera. It's been three years since the announcement of the previous top of the range which was the A6500 camera.
This is an APS-C camera or more often referred to as a cropped sensor camera that offers certain advantages especially for photographers and videographers on the go. It has something to do with size and weight because it weighs less than their full-frame cameras. And you could probably get an entire camera kit if it's under two and a half kilos in a small messenger bag. It's also much cheaper than going for the full-frame cameras. 24.2MP Exmor CMOS Sensor
The newly improved APS-C format 24.2MP Exmor CMOS sensor provides smooth image quality with minimal sound and high sensitivity from ISO 100-32000. This can be expanded to ISO 102400 when you're working in poor lighting conditions. The sensor combined with the BIONZ X processor results in top continuous-shooting rate of 11fps. It also has AF and AE and allows 16-bit recording with 14-bit RAW file output for wider color and tonal scale.
XAVC S Format UHD 4K Video Recording
UHD 4K movie internal recording is possible in multiple frame rates of up to 30fps and a spectacular 6K resolution. There's no pixel binning to ensure higher quality images. Full-frame 4K recording has also been highly improved for better quality when you are working at mid and high sensitivities.
HDR Content Support
The A6600 lets users adjust gamma, knee, black level, color level, among otheers. Users also have the option to use the S-Log2Gamma Curve that is present on high-end Sony Cinema cameras. This squeezes up to 1300% more dynamic range to the video signal compared to the traditional REC709 for better post-production experience.
S&Q Mode
New frame rates are made available in an S&Q mode. Users can now capture Full HD video at steps between 1-120fps. These settings lets you slow down the action or speed up a slow-moving scene. Furthermore, this is NTSC/PAL switchable.
Enhanced Zebra Function
The A6600 enhanced Zebra function aids in monitoring exposure values during high-contrast scenes. The signal level targets of the video can be set from 0-109, or you can set specific ranges to ensure exposure level adjustments are made easier.
5-Axis Steadyshot INSIDE Image Stabilization
The 5-Axis Steadyshot INSIDe Image Stabilization system compensates for 5 various types of camera shake that is common during handheld shots or while taking video. Because of this, users can now use any type of lens, even adapted lenses without having to worry about blur from camera shake.
Body Design and Connectivity
The camera's body is protected with a robust magnesium alloy and is also sealed to protect from dust and moisture. With this, photographers and video creatives are more confident in bringing it even when working in harsh environments.
E 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS Lens
The camera's E 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS lens offers a 27-202.5 wide-angle to telephoto focal length range equivalent. It's Optical SteadyShot Image stabilization system, on the other hand, minimizes camera shake for sharper handheld shots. Sharper imagery is also produced using a linear autofocus motor. This delivers fast and accurate focusing performance with minimal noise to fit any video recording applications. The lens also has an intelligent optical design which uses extra-low dispersion glass along with aspherical elements to control chromatic and spherical aberrations throughout the zoom range.
