- February 21, 2007Update:
Sigma SD14 is now available to order.Original Message:
According to the Sigma Japan website, the Sigma SD14 digital SLR will be shipping from 6th March. Our local suppliers have suggested mid-April as a realistic timeframe for Australian availability.Read the Sigma press release (English version)
The release of the SD14 is significant as Sigma have incorporated the Foveon X3 sensor, which has 3-layers, each capturing red, green and blue light exclusively. According to Sigma "...conventional image sensors capture only one-third of the colour, complicated computations are required to interpolate the colours they miss. Interpolation leads to colour errors, colour artifacts and a loss of image detail. Low pass filters must then be used to reduce colour artifacts. The use of low pass filters adversely affect sharpness and resolution of the final image captured".
Do you think the Foveon X3 will deliver superior image quality? Please add your comments below.

Sony Corporation have announced a new 6-megapixel CMOS sensor (the bit that records the image in digital cameras) that allows full resolution video at 60 frames per second, and opens the door to full resolution still picture extraction from video - something that has, to date, not been possible at video-speed frame rates.
The sensor is also capable of 300 frame/second capture at lower resolutions.

At Camera-Warehouse we recognise that rarely will you purchase a digital camera on its own. Extras such as memory and a case are required purchasing as the manufacturers don't normally supply these with the camera, but this can mean the cost of your camera starts to mount up. When you buy in-store, these extras are often discounted to sweeten the deal, but that's not been possible online...until now! We are very excited to announce the availability of a new quotes service at Camera-Warehouse that will mean you always get the best possible deal from us.
How does it work?
In order to qualify for a bundle quote, you must be purchasing 3 items or more, and the total value must be greater than $250 incl. GST. This is the total quantity including multiples of the same product (e.g. camera + 2x memory cards), or individual products (e.g. camera + memory card + case). Once you've added the third item, a link will appear in the basket recommending you 'request a quote'. Click this link, complete -
