The AF drive is equipped with TAMRON’s linear motor focus mechanism VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) to enable high speed, high precision auto-focusing. Closeup shooting capabilities have also been improved and achieve an MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 0.18m (7.1in) at the 28mm wide end, and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.7.

With the goal of producing outstanding high image quality befitting a new fast-aperture zoom lens, TAMRON redesigned the optical design in the new 28-75mm F2.8 G2 from scratch. The optical construction of the Model A063 deploys 17 elements in 15 groups. To minimize optical aberrations to an extreme degree, two LD (Low Dispersion) and GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) lens elements are used in an optimal arrangement. The lens demonstrates high resolving power to the edges of the frame at all focal lengths, while also offering the soft and beautiful bokeh that is distinctive to fast-aperture lenses. The image quality shows marked improvements over the 1st-generation Model A036. The 28-75mm F2.8 G2 retains the same light weight and compact size while achieving significant improvements to resolution and overall performance across the entire zoom range. The AF drive system is equipped with VXD linear motor focus mechanism. VXD is exceptionally responsive and operates at high speed with great precision. The AF speed marks approximately twice1 as fast as the 1st-generation Model A036. With reliable, speedy focusing from the MOD to infinity and extremely good focus tracking, you are ready for those important moments even when photographing fast-moving subjects. Moreover, the AF drive motor is very quiet, making it ideal for still photography and videography when shooting in conditions where near-silence is required.

The 28-75mm F2.8 G2 is a fast-aperture standard zoom lens, and a remarkably compact and lightweight design, just 117.6mm (4.6in) [2] long, with a maximum diameter of 75.8mm and weight of only 540g (19oz) [2]. Achieves an MOD of 0.18m (7.1 in) and maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.7
Close focusing has also been improved. The MOD of the 28-75mm F2.8 G2 is 0.18m (7.1 in) at the wide 28mm end, an improvement over the 1st-generation Model A036. This allows photographers to capture powerful shots that emphasize the perspective effects unique to wide-angle photography when shooting close-ups. The working distance becomes about 4.4cm (1.7 in) at the MOD. The maximum magnification ratio is 1:2.7. Get closer to any subject and enjoy the world of wide macro photography. In addition, at the telephoto end the MOD is 0.38m (15 in). The magnification ratio when using the longer 75mm focal length is 1:4.1, enabling close-up shooting with greater working distance.

TAMRON Lens Utility™ expands the possibilities of still photography and video shooting
The 28-75mm F2.8 G2 is compatible with the dedicated TAMRON Lens Utility software developed in-house by TAMRON that empowers users to easily update the lens to the latest firmware without going through the camera[3], and includes functions to support focusing operations and other actions when shooting still images or video. By utilizing a wide range of functions[4], users can expand the breadth of expression in still images and video. For example, A-B Focus allows users to limit focusing to two pre-set focus points, shifting focus from one subject to another with just a click of the Focus Set Button. Users can also choose between Linear and Non-linear, which affects how the focus shifts during manual focusing.

Lets you smoothly and easily shift focus from one subject to another
This function allows you to shift focus at a preset speed, as is frequently done when recording video. Get exactly the kind of visual expression you want, for example, by slowly shifting the focus from a distant subject to one closer to you, or by guiding the gaze of the person viewing the video. Use the Focus Set Button to record two preset focal points in advance. Afterwards, a simple press on the Focus Set Button allows you to shoot while moving focus automatically and at a set speed; you don't have to worry about the speed blur associated with manual focus, and you can achieve stable visual expression.

Makes manual focus easier to use
This function adjusts focus movement when using manual focus. You can choose between "Non-linear," where the amount of focal point movement changes based on how fast you rotate the focus ring, and "Linear," where the focal point moves based on how much you rotate the focus ring. Some lenses allow users to adjust rotation as well, to offer more personalization.

Move focus to a prerecorded focal point with one press
This function allows you to preset focal points, for example, to deliberately defocus a subject during a video transition or to access a focal point for night photography. You can set the focus movement speed when recording video. You can also set focus on a preset focal point at maximum speed with a single press when taking still photographs. Zoom ring, focus ring
Grip texture has been improved by redesigning the striped pattern on the rubber focusing and zoom rings. Certain internal parts have also been enhanced. These advancements result in smoother overall operability. TAMRON has also adjusted the stiffness and torque of the zoom ring to facilitate smoother and more precise operation.

New sculpted shape
The diameters of the zoom ring and focus ring have been enlarged, and the body areas around them have been slimmed down to give the lens a contoured profile that makes it easier to grip. This creates a comfortable, uneven shape that fits snugly and naturally in the hand.

Exterior has deep, luxurious black finish
The surface of the lens exterior is shiny black, much glossier than previous models. Improved abrasion resistance makes the lens harder to scratch and resists fingerprints.
