The successor to the world’s most popular full-frame mirrorless camera has arrived - the Alpha 7 IV. The Image Sensor

The Alpha 7 IV has been built with an entirely new image sensor expanded for a new stills and movie shooting experience. The full-frame 33-megapixel backilluminated CMOS image sensor delivers exceptional image resolution with low noise, and an enhanced colour science for rich details and accurate skin tones. Additionally, 15 stops of dynamic range is achieved for both stills and movies

BIONZ XR processor

Employing the same image processor as the Alpha 1, the Alpha 7 IV takes full advantage of the BIONZ XR™ image processor. Powerful image processing delivered by the BIONZ XR processor provides astounding performance enhancements in every area of the Alpha 7 IV, with increased AF speeds, faster buffer-clearing for images, recording data-dense video files with 4K 10bit 4:2:2 sampling, right through to faster boot-up times and menu navigation

Real-time Tracking Autofocus

Taking the advances in Real-time Tracking autofocus made by the Alpha 1, the Alpha 7 IV delivers a noticeable increase in subject recognition and AF speed. Not only has autofocus speeds and precision been enhanced but also a substantial increase in AF stability and AF controls with object tracking, Human, Animal, and Bird Eye AF tracking, and adjustable parameters for AF Sensitivity and Transition Speed.

For the first time in an α series body, the Alpha 7 IV now supports both Animal and Bird Eye AF in video mode. Available in all frame rates and video resolution, Animal and Bird Eye AF in video mode is the next evolution in reliable autofocus when filming movies.

Redesigned Mode Dial for the true Hybrid

Made with the hybrid photographer-videographer in mind, the Mode Dial on the Alpha 7 IV has been redesigned in a two-tier design. The bottom dial shifts between Stills, Movie, and S&Q. The top dial changes the mode. This design change allows fluid and fast in-the-field changes between photo and video mode.
