Product Features in Detail

RETHINK YOUR RANGE
All photo opportunities are not created equal, so imagine the frustration of being tantalisingly out of range. With the NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR, you are never too far away – capture high quality images of distant subjects up to telephoto 250mm1, so you can take those fantastic concert shots from all the way at the back! Of course, certain scenarios, such as animals in their natural habitat, require a more subtle approach, and this lens lets you magnify objects from a distance without disturbing them. But this lens doesn’t just thrive on distance, it’s more than capable of capturing stunning portraits. The compression effect can make background elements appear closer and larger than the foreground elements, emphasising the main subject.

ALL HAIL SUPERIOR RESOLUTION
Resolution is all-important when it comes to zoom lenses, and the NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR does not disappoint. It delivers equally sharp resolution for still images and movies, letting you get flexible with your subject matter. Distance does not stand in the way of crisp colours and image sharpness thanks to the inclusion of an Extra Low Dispersion (ED) glass element that reduces colour bleeding and effectively compensates for axial chromatic aberration.

IN THE HEART OF THE ACTION
From the high-spirited bustle of a street carnival to an erupting stadium of fervent football fans, sometimes the best photo opportunities call for flinging yourself into the middle of the action. The built-in VR effect of the NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR reduces camera shake, so you do not have to worry about those magical moments being brought down to earth by blurry images. The VR effect is equivalent to a shutter speed effect of 5.0 stops2 faster, the maximum in the history of NIKKOR interchangeable lenses3, and works in low light conditions without increasing ISO. To maximise performance for dynamic shooting, we recommend pairing it with the new Z 50 and setting it on “SPORT” mode.

SAVOUR SMOOTH SHOOTING
Don’t live in fear of spoiling the moment. The smooth operation of the NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR significantly reduces the operation noise of the lens, so you can photograph that music festival without the dreaded whirring of a lens as an unintended backing track. The lens’ ultra-convenient, customisable control-ring lets you dial in your desired focus, aperture and exposure compensation, so you can focus on the task at hand without fumbling for buttons. Adding to the agility of this easy-to-carry lens, you can retract the lens with its simple buttonless retractable-lens mechanism, and shorten the lens’ length when stored. On top of that, it excels at delivering natural exposure changes, so you can smoothly transition from scene to scene like a pro. Lights, camera, action!

WITH A ZOOM THAT COVERS A WIDE TELEPHOTO RANGE, PICTURE-TAKING UTILIZING TELEPHOTO EFFECT IS ENABLED FOR A GREATER VARIETY OF SCENES
The zoom range from medium-telephoto 50 mm to telephoto 250 mm* covers a wide telephoto area. Taking maximum advantage of this telephoto shooting capability, a wide variety of scenes can be captured with a single lens, from distant subjects that you cannot approach, to snapshots of comparatively nearer subjects, to portraits utilizing the telephoto effect. Despite being a telephoto zoom lens, you can easily get as close to subjects as 0.5 m/1.64 ft (at 50 mm zoom position; 1 m/3.29 ft at 250 mm zoom position) in order to capture impressive close-up shots including tabletop photography. The adoption of a stepping motor for AF drive enables quiet and fast focusing in cooperation with the camera's high AF performance. Comfortable focusing is also ensured with minimal shifting of the angle of view when adjusting focus. * Angle of view is equivalent to that of a 75-375mm lens in FX/35mm format.

THE HIGH IMAGE QUALITY OF NIKKOR Z LENSES ENABLES THE CAPTURE OF BEAUTIFUL PICTURES AT ALL SHOOTING DISTANCES ACROSS THE ENTIRE ZOOM RANGE
The superior resolution achieved with a large-diameter Z mount, that greatly changes the perception of conventional DX-format kit lenses, is reliably provided regardless of focal-length range or shooting distance, ensuring minute description of a subject's details from maximum aperture. Also, the employment of an ED glass element effectively compensates axial chromatic aberration, resulting in beautiful images with minimal color bleeding.

WITH A SUPERIOR VR EFFECT EQUIVALENT TO A SHUTTER SPEED 5.0 STOPS FASTER, TELEPHOTO SHOOTING IS FACILITATED WITHOUT WORRYING ABOUT CAMERA SHAKE
With an in-lens optical VR (Vibration Reduction) function that provides an effect of 5.0 stops faster*1, the maximum in the history of NIKKOR interchangeable lenses*2, image blur is effectively compensated even in telephoto and low-light shooting where camera shake is likely to be an issue.

*1 Based on CIPA Standard; this value is achieved when attached to a mirrorless camera equipped with an APS-C size image sensor, and when zoom is set to the maximum telephoto position. *2 As of October, 2019

GREAT MOVIE RECORDING PERFORMANCE FOR SMOOTH AND NATURAL FOOTAGE
A wide range of features that realize enhanced movie expression is incorporated. With effective focus-breathing reduction, natural movies with minimal shifting of the angle of view are attained even when the focus point changes. The control ring to which various functions such as focus (M/A)*, ISO sensitivity, aperture or exposure compensation can be assigned allows smooth and quiet clickless operation. Because AF and diaphragm mechanisms ensure quiet operation, movie recording is reliably enabled without worrying about their operation sounds being recorded. In addition, stable aperture control delivers smooth and natural exposure changes to movies.

* With this manual-priority autofocus mode, AF is instantly overridden with MF by rotating the control ring.

EASY-TO-CARRY DESIGN THAT ENABLES AGILE SHOOTING
The retractable-lens mechanism that shortens the length when stored without sacrificing lens optical performance can extend/retract the lens via zoom ring rotation without pressing a button. You can easily carry this compact telephoto zoom lens anywhere without fatigue, ensuring remarkable agility for telephoto shooting that delivers amazing image quality even when sudden shutter opportunities arise.

1Angle of view of the DX-format 50-250 mm lens is equivalent to that of a 75-375mm lens in FX/35mm format.

2Based on CIPA Standard; this value is achieved when attached to a DX-format camera with the camera’s VR function set to “NORMAL”, and when zoom is set to the maximum telephoto position.

3As of October 2019.
