Nikon Nikkor Z 17-28mm f/2.8 Lens

The new Nikon Nikkor Z 17-28mm f/2.8 lens is a wide-angle zoom lens that covers the popular 17-28mm focal length range, with a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8. It's designed specifically for full-frame DSLRs, and it's compatible with the new Z 6 and Z 7 mirrorless cameras. The Z 17-28mm features 13 elements in 11 groups, with one Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) element and three Aspherical elements for sharpness and contrast. It incorporates a stepping motor AF system with full-time manual focus override, as well as programmable control ring for customized shooting settings.

A rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to smooth background blur, while internal focusing (IF) and zooming allow the front element to remain stationary during autofocus or manual focus adjustments. This is an important feature because it allows you to use polarizing filters without having to rotate them during exposure settings or while using autofocus functions. The lens has other useful features like a 7.5" minimum focusing distance (MFD), which allows you to get close enough to your subject without having to change lenses; an inner focus design; a dust- and drip-resistant construction.

IF Lens

ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) Glass
An optical glass developed by Nikon that is used with normal optical glass in telephoto lenses to obtain optimum correction of chromatic aberrations.

Aspherical Lens
A lens with a curved, non-spherical surface. Used to reduce aberrations and enable a more compact lens size. Aspherical lenses minimize coma and other types of lens aberrations, even when used at the widest aperture. They are particularly useful in correcting distortion in wide-angle lenses and help contribute to a lighter, more compact design by reducing the number of standard (spherical) elements necessary. Aspherical lens elements correct these distortions by continuously changing the refractive index from the center of the lens.

Super ED Glass
Nikon has also developed Super ED glass featuring even lower dispersion properties and extremely high performance in reducing the secondary spectrum, to minimize chromatic aberration even further, as well as other lens aberrations.
