Nikon Nikkor AF-S 58mm f/1.4G is an extraordinary FX-format prime lens with large f/1.4 aperture and 58 mm focal length. Made to perform at its best at maximum aperture, this lens drives to the limits of image quality with its 72 mm (P = 0.75 mm) Filter-attachment size. A real class of its own, the 58 mm focal length gives homage to Nikon’s renowned Noct-NIKKOR lens, whereas the brand new optical construction of the Type G AF-S DX lens with built-in CPU and F mount enables astonishing contrast, sharpness, and resolution. The Nano Crystal Coat utilizes multiple layers of Nikon’s outstanding extra-low refractive index coating which eliminates element reflections across a range of wavelengths. An exceptional lens for shooting night scenes, the 9 elements in 6 groups (including 2 aspherical lens elements) filters the point light sources like city lights as fine as the 9 (rounded diaphragm opening) all the way to the edge of the frame. Bokeh is intricately smooth with no rough edges, which makes this a great lens for portraits as well. It is compatible with APS-C and Full Frame Sensor DSLR Cameras.

Product Features in Detail

Fast FX-format prime lens with f/1.4 maximum aperture and 58 mm focal length (87 mm when used with a Nikon DX-format SLR)

Offers exceptional wide-open performance. Ideal for night scenes as well as portraits.

True brilliance

Exceptional resolving capability enables every component of a scene to be faithfully reproduced in exquisite high-resolution. Sagittal coma flare is effectively minimised for superior reproduction of point light sources as fine rounded points, even at the periphery of an image.

Exquisite bokeh

The intensity of bokeh transitions smoothly as the distance from the sharply focused point increases, resulting in no rough edges. Enables high-resolution images with an additional sense of depth.

Wide-open master

Subjects are sharply rendered when shooting at the widest aperture of f/1.4. High contrast images of distant subjects or low-light scenes can be obtained without needing to stop down the aperture.

Superior edge-to-edge performance

Peripheral light falloff is controlled to retain brightness across the frame. Subjects located at the edge of the frame are sharp and well-resolved, even when shooting at maximum aperture with focus set to infinity.

Renowned NIKKOR quality

Nano Crystal Coat effectively reduces ghost and flare, increasing the clarity and contrast of images. Autofocus is smooth, quiet, and swift, thanks to Nikon’s SWM (Silent Wave Motor).

Aspherical lens elements

Aspherical lenses virtually eliminate the problem of coma and other types of lens aberration — even when used at the widest aperture. They are particularly useful in correcting the distortion in wideangle lenses. In addition, use of aspherical lenses contributes to a lighter and smaller lens design.

Nano Crystal Coat

Nano Crystal Coat is an antireflective coating that originated in the development of NSR-series (Nikon Step and Repeat) semiconductor manufacturing devices. It virtually eliminates internal lens element reflections across a wide range of wavelengths, and is particularly effective in reducing ghost and flare peculiar to ultra-wideangle lenses.

M/A mode

AF-S NIKKOR lenses feature Nikon's exclusive M/A mode, that allows switching from autofocus to manual operation with virtually no time lag — even during AF servo operation and regardless of AF mode in use.

Rounded Diaphragm

Soft-focus shots of point light sources create regular polygonal shapes that reflect the shape of the opening created by the diaphragm blades. A rounded diaphragm uses blades designed to create a circular opening for a more beautiful soft-focus effect.

The G-type NIKKOR has no aperture ring; aperture should be selected from camera body.
