Sony FE 28-70mm f/2 GM Lens

Designed to provide edge-to-edge sharpness on Sony's full-frame mirrorless cameras, the Sony FE 28-70mm f/2 GM Lens ensures high-quality images across the entire frame. The use of four XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors would promise exceptionally fast, precise, and quiet autofocus performance, beneficial for both photo and video applications. The floating focus mechanism would improve close-up performance and ensure consistent image quality throughout the focusing range. A minimum focusing distance of 38cm across the entire zoom range enhances the lens’s versatility, making it possible to get close to subjects for detailed shots. Aperture De-Click and Lock Switches are particularly useful for video shooters, allowing for smooth and silent aperture changes (de-click) and preventing accidental changes to aperture settings (lock).

The inclusion of extreme aspherical (XA) elements and Super Extra-Low Dispersion elements suggests a design focused on reducing aberrations and achieving outstanding resolution and clarity. One ED (extra-low dispersion) element and three Super ED elements reduce axial chromatic aberration as well as lateral chromatic aberration that can reduce resolution at the image periphery. Resistant to flare and ghosting

F2 G Master design for extraordinary depth
An F2 max. aperture and G Master optics deliver exquisite, soft bokeh for deep, dimensional images. Spherical aberration is carefully controlled for ideal resolution/bokeh balance, and a new 11-blade circular aperture unit helps to deliver gorgeous ball bokeh. Onion-ring bokeh and color bleeding are effectively suppressed for refined image quality.

Precise, reliable, responsive AF tracking
Four XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors and the latest algorithm precisely control the large F2 focus group. Reliable focus tracking and instant response are essential at weddings or sports events where every frame counts. This lens is fully compatible with the 120fps3 burst capability of the α9 III, and tracking continues even while zooming.

Professional control
Important control functions include Linear Response MF for intuitive manual focus, adjustable zoom ring torque, and an aperture ring with a click ON/OFF switch. There are also two customizable focus hold buttons, an iris lock switch, and an AF/MF switch. Filter diameter is 86 mm, and the lens hood has a window for easy variable filter operation. 

Refined, expressive movie production
Focus breathing is subdued for refined movie imagery. Rack focus and zoom effects can be used with F2 depth of field to create smooth, natural transitions. Critical focus for high frame rate 4K 120p/FHD 240p 4recording is easy. The XD linear motors and a new aperture unit operate quietly, and α body breathing compensation5 is supported.

Rugged and reliable
Buttons and switches feature silicone gaskets, the lens mount includes a rubber ring, and all other critical areas are painstakingly designed to prevent the incursion of dust and moisture6 and ensure maximum reliability in challenging outdoor conditions. A fluorine coating on the front element effectively repels contaminants and makes cleaning easy.

Environment friendly
Sony's "Road to Zero" project aims for a zero environmental footprint by 2050. The environmental footprint of this product has been minimized from development through supply chain, production and packaging. We are also transitioning to non-plastic packaging materials. Plant-based non-woven fabrics are used for product bags. 7
