Product Features in Detail
X-Trans CMOS 4 Sensor
With a 26.1-megapixel resolution, the Fujifilm X-E4 sensor sports a unique filter that corrects moiré and inaccurate colours without an optical low-pass filter. Meanwhile, the back-illuminated sensor improves image quality without losing its high S/N ratio. The sensor also boasts 2.16 million phase-detection autofocus pixels that cover almost 100% of the frame. Therefore, the subject remains clear regardless of his location within the frame.
X-Processor 4
This latest Fujifilm X Series’ image processing engine uses up-to-date algorithms to provide a strong backbone for the X-E4's Film Simulation modes. It also upgrades its capability to focus on moving subjects while boosting autofocus accuracy. The X-Processor 4 provides a versatile array of video functions that use the X-Trans sensor's potential to the fullest.
Film Simulation modes
Fujifilm uses up to 85 years of imaging expertise to recreate film camera effects onto their X-series mirrorless devices. As a result, the Fujifilm X-E4 features 18 Film Simulation modes that allow you to get the desired effect by tinkering with an image's saturation and tonality.
The available Film Simulation modes are as follows:
- Sepia - Adds a warm tone across the frame for a sepia look. When applied to a retro subject, it creates a nostalgic look.
- Provia - Based on FUJICHROME PROVIA, a reversal film designed for professional use, this Film Simulation mode caters to all subject types, offering a relatively neutral color reproduction.
- Velvia - Based on FUJICHROME Velvia, an ultra-vivid reversal film designed for professional use, this Film Simulation mode provides richer and high-contrast colors than the standard “PROVIA,” normally used by landscape photographers.
- Astia - Based on FUJICHROME ASTIA, a reversal film designed for use in fashion portraits, this Film Simulation mode prioritises soft and faithful reproduction of skin tones while also reproducing vivid blue skies and greenery.
- Classic Chrome - This Film Simulation mode is designed to reproduce a look that is similar to documentary magazines of the 20th century. Its low-saturation and hard tonal gradation in shadows make it a perfect choice for documentary photography with a touch of realism.
- PRO Neg. Hi - Based on PRO160NH, a color negative film for professionals, this Film Simulation mode has slightly harder tonal gradation than PRO Neg. Std. It is mainly used in portrait photography where the lighting is not easily controlled. It provides the right amount of shadows even under flat lighting.
- PRO Neg. Std. - Based on PRO160NS, a color negative film for professionals, this Film Simulation mode has a soft tonal gradation and excellent skin tone reproduction. Ideal for portrait photography under carefully controlled lighting. The neutral tonality renders itself well to post-processing.
- Classic Neg. - Based on SUPERIA, a color negative film loved by generations, this Film Simulation mode provides high-contrast tonal gradation and adds depth and definition to colors by adjusting their shades in highlights and shadows while reducing saturation.
- Eterna - Based on ETERNA, a film designed for motion pictures, this Film Simulation mode minimises saturation to ensure that none of the colors stand out. It provides an extremely soft tonal gradation in highlights and deep shadows to prevent clipping, to reproduce a cinematic look.
- Eterna Bleach Bypass - This Film Simulation mode applies a Bleach Bypass effect to the ETERNA mode. This creates a high-contrast and low-saturation look which gives a touch of profoundness, loved by many filmmakers, which is perfect for a more dramatic edit.
- ACROS - Based on ACROS, a monochrome film renowned for its super fine grain, this Film Simulation mode delivers rich shadow details and excellent sharpness, while still being able to add grain at high ISOs to produce the stunning textural feel of monochrome films.
- Monochrome - Shoots in black and white. Available with yellow, red, and green filters, which deepen shades of gray corresponding to hues complementary to the selected color
Creative Control
- Color Chrome Blue - This adds more depth and naturally enhances the vividness of the color.
- Color Chrome Effect - Use Color Chrome effects, to add depth, detail, and natural vividness to red, green, or yellow tones in your image where saturation is too high to achieve true gradation; or use Color Chrome FX Blue to adjust values in just the blue tones of an image. Adjust them separately in three levels to perfectly match your subject.
- Clarity - The Clarity control lets you decide whether to depict a scene with a crisp sharpness or give it a softer feel. With 11 levels of control, it’s easy to fine-tune it to your own personal taste and style.
- Monochromatic Color - Monochromatic Color allows you to choose a key color from a matrix of Warm / Cool tones and Magenta / Green hues. You can incorporate the rich gradation into your images to create photographs with a personal twist.
Autofocus Speed
The combined power of the X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor and X Processor 4 produces top-notch autofocus performance in just 0.02 secs. Fujifilm X-E4’s AF tracks and locks onto fast-moving subjects. It also focuses on people's faces in a breeze.
Low light AF
The X-E4’s Intelligent Hybrid Phase Detection has a sensitivity of up to -7EV which makes autofocus available even in nighttime conditions.
Tracking AF
The AF algorithm detects shapes and colors in identifying subjects to keep them in focus with high-speed tracking performance. Just half-press the shutter button and the X-E4 will smoothly track moving subjects within the frame.
Video recording
With its high-resolution 4K output that is oversampled from pure 6K data, the FUJIFILM X-E4 lets you record beautifully detailed and natural-looking footage to create high-quality, professional movies. You can even switch to Full HD mode and record at 240fps, to achieve a 10x slow-motion effect for those times where every part of the action needs to be seen.
