The 3x zoom covers the commonly used focal length range of 18–55mm; the lens is constructed with 11 elements in 8 groups (including 1 aspherical lens elements) and 7 (rounded diaphragm opening). Autofocus is controlled by Silent Wave Motor and separate focus ring for manual focus, which is an advantage when shooting movies. Regardless of its compact size, this lens still has Nikon’s Vibration Reduction system for blur-free images, whether you’re zooming in to capture distant subjects, or taking a wide-angle group portrait in low light.
