With a weight of 6.2 oz. (175g), EF 35-80mm f/4-5.6 III is the lightest compact zoom EF lens. The aspherical element makes it compact and makes it acquire high-contrast images. At the 80mm focal length and f/4-5.6 aperture, a postcard can fill the viewfinder frame. Lead-free glass is used constructing the lens. It is made just like the EF 35-80mm f/4-5.6 USM lens. The only difference is that instead of a USM, it uses a micro motor. The closest focusing distance is at 0.4m / 1.3ft.
DC motor
A DC motor drives autofocus quickly. Excellent holding torque ensures the point of focus is reached accurately, without overshooting. Furthermore, full-time manual override is available, making it possible to adjust focus without leaving AF mode.
Smooth background blur
A virtually circular aperture diaphragm gives out of focus regions a softer, more uniform feel. Sharp foreground objects stand out against a smooth blurred background.
Sharp imaging
Images are sharp. At the 80mm focal length, a postcard can fill the viewfinder frame.
Wide span of focal length
This lens can cover all commonly used focal lenths from wide-angle 35mm to medium-telephoto 80mm.
Flare-blocking diaphragm
Compact normal zoom lens with a good price-to-performance ratio and a flare-blocking diaphragm.
