Panasonic DC-GH5 Firmware Update Version 2.0

Panasonic has released a Firmware Update Version 2.0 for the DC-GH5 Mirrorless Digital Camera. One of the more significant improvements in the new firmware is the compatibility with the Lumix Tether PC Software. Likewise, 6K PHOTO and 4K PHOTO shooting via USB is now allowed and faster resets between shots during this mode are added as well.

Improved Autofocus

Over-all autofocus performance of the GH5 has been improved especially for subjects with low contrast in photo shooting. The AF area can now be displayed continuously and can be moved to the other edge in Multi AF mode. The start point of the AF lock can also be set in advance on the live view screen during AF Tracking. Meanwhile, the AF area can also be moved while in Burst, 6K PHOTO, or 4K PHOTO mode by half-pressing the shutter button.

6K PHOTO and 4K PHOTO Improvements

The waiting time to start another burst shooting in 4K PHOTO and 6K PHOTO have been reduced in half. Also, loop recording is now available in 6K PHOTO but it is recommended that a Panasonic SD Memory Card with Video Speed Class 90 is used during this mode. 6K PHOTO is a high-speed burst shooting function that cuts a still image out of a 4:3 or 3:2 video footage with 18-megapixel (approx. 6000 x 3000 effective pixel count) that the 6K image manages.

Additional ALL-Intra Video Recording Mode

One of the new features included in the GH5 Firmware Version 2.0 is the All-Intra Video Recording Mode that includes a 4:2:2 10-bit Colour Subsampling as well as bitrate of up to 400 Mbps through all 4K Video Recording modes. In Full HD mode, this All-Intra mode adds a 200 Mbps Bitrate. With ALL-Intra Recording, video streams are easily expanded to make editing easier while maintaining the same level of picture quality with the LongGOP 100-150 Mbps.

Hybrid Log Gamma 4K HDR Shooting

This firmware update also makes the GH5 the first mirrorless digital camera that is capable of Hybrid Log Gamma 4K High Dynamic Range Shooting. In the usual SDR mode, the expression is limited for strong sun rays and parts with dark shadows. With HLG 4K HDR, the brightness range is widen to make HDR render bright and dark area simultaneously.

High-resolution Anamorphic Video

The High-Resolution Anamorphic Mode increases the 4:3 maximum resolution of videos from 3328 x 2496 in 4K Anamorphic to 4992 x 3744 in High-Resolution Anamorphic. An Anamorphic Desqueeze Display is also available for both playback and shooting while a Video Guide Line can also be activated for four video aspect ratios.

Bluetooth Remote Control Function with Image App

Gain mobile control of the GH5 for it is now possible for Bluetooth Remote Control via the Image App. This simple and quick operation makes it possible to take photos and record videos via the Shutter Remote Control in the app.
