Nikon has announced a new addition to their digital SLR range in the form of the D5000. Apparently sitting between the current D60 and D90 models, the D5000 will compete directly with Canon's recently announced EOS 500D, but includes one 'killer' feature in the form of a 2.7" vari-angle LCD monitor.
Other key features include:

- Specially designed EXPEED image processing system
- Live View shooting
- Movie clips with D-Movie
- 19 Scene Modes
- Scene Recognition System with Face Detection System
- Active D-Lighting
- 11-point AF system with Multi-CAM 1000 autofocus module
- Picture Control System
- Photo editing
- Nikon Integrated Dust Reduction System
