New OM-D E-M1 v3.0 firmware significantly improves continuous autofocus performance in the high-speed sequential shooting mode, and enhances Wi Fi control functionality.

Olympus Imaging is pleased to announce its development of Version 3.0 camera firmware for the flagship OM-D E-M1 camera that significantly improves the camera’s continuous autofocusing capability.

The OM-D E-M1 is equipped with a 37-point on-chip phase detection imaging sensor enabling high-speed, high-precision continuous auto-focus (AF) with Four Thirds or Micro Four Thirds lenses. By improving the camera’s phase-detection AF algorithm, when continuous AF (C-AF) is engaged, the camera’s sequential shooting speed is raised to a maximum rate of 9 fps*1 (from a previous 6.5 fps) when the Sequential H mode is used.

This new firmware supports the use of Olympus Image Share (OI.Share) version 2.5 smartphone app with the E-M1. OI.Share enables camera control, picture editing, and easy data transfer to social media over Wi Fi. App users can now select movies as a shooting mode, and record movies with Live View on the smartphone screen.
