Moving with the times...

Regular visitors to our website will know that, whilst we've been very quiet on the newsletter front, we have been continually updating our on-site news, products, special offers and more.

The most recent upgrade to our site is directly related to the newsletter, and we're hoping that you'll find this much easier and more useful than the sporadic emails we put together when we get time. Do you recognise this ? This icon represents the availability of a RSS news feed, and I'm very pleased to announce that Camera-Warehouse Digital Camera News is now available in real-time via such a feed. If you already know about RSS, click the icon above to subscribe. Otherwise, please read on.

There are arguments about the official meaning of the RSS acronym, but one of the more commonly accepted versions is 'Really Simple Syndication'. This is a means of distributing regularly updated content, such as news, via the Internet, without the need to visit the individual page or website. To read the news, all you need is a RSS reader, which can be obtained for free from a number of sources, including Google, and is built into Internet Explorer 7 as standard (this is currently in beta, but pretty good in my opinion). Your news reader will periodically check our site (and any others to which you subscribe) for updates, and when new news is available, display it for you to read. The reader will automatically hide news that you've marked as read, but the real advantage of using a news reader, as found on Google Personalised Homepage for example, is that it allows you to view all your news subscriptions on the one page without having to visit any other websites.

We appreciate that your might also want, or prefer, to continue to receive our news updates by email, so this facility is still available via our RSS distribution partner, FeedBurner, but we will unfortunately no longer be providing a consolidated newsletter service like this. This frees up more time for us to concentrate on finding the best deals and reporting the latest news, rather than creating newsletters, which benefits everybody. If you'd like to continue to receive news updates via email, please subscribe here.

Have your say...before it's too late...please

Another exciting update to the news service means that you can now add comments to the news items online. Whether it's requesting clarification, seeking advice relevant to the topic, or simply voicing your opinion, you don't [currently] need to log in and the comments are applied immediately and anonymously for all to see. (Note that private posts are not currently relayed via the RSS news service)

We hope to be able to continue to offer this service without the need to subscribe, but, more often than not, such services are hijacked by people with nothing interesting or constructive to say, who post profanities and links to porn websites. I'd like to think Camera-Warehouse is different, so please, if you have anything to say - say it and set the tone for anyone who's thinking of abusing the service. Thank you.

If you have any questions regarding any of the above, please send me an email. Otherwise, I hope you enjoy our new news service and look forward to providing you with more of the latest news on the digital camera market in Australia. If you've made it this far, thank you for reading!
