At the PMA show in Las Vegas on Friday, Sony announced a new Cyber-shot model, the DSC-HX1 that caused quite a stir.
On first impressions, the camera boasts modest specs, with a 9 megapixel sensor, 28-480mm (20x) zoom lens and 3 inch LCD screen. However, unlike most digital cameras, the DSC-HX1 uses a mechanical shutter that is claimed to reduce image noise by up to 50%, which is particularly noticeable in low-light conditions.
Combined with Sony's new Exmor sensor, the camera achieves bursts of 10 frames per second at full 9.1 megapixel resolution.
