Canon announces new budget compact cameras

Canon have announced four new cameras in their PowerShot range to cater to the entry level end of the market.

The Canon PowerShot A3100 IS features a 12.1 megapixel sensor, with 4x optical zoom. This camera replaces the current PowerShot A2000 IS.

The PowerShot A3000 IS has a 10 megapixel sensor and replaces the current PowerShot A1000 IS model.

Both new models have new slimline styling, somewhere between the older models they replace and the compact IXUS range. This has meant a move to lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, away from the AA batteries used previously in these cameras.

The Canon PowerShot A495/A490 fill the gap left by the departing PowerShot A480. Sporting an updated, rounded styling, these cameras use AA batteries for super-convenience.

Pricing on all new models is TBA, which will start shipping in February.
