Canon announces IXUS 980 IS and IXUS 870 IS

Canon has announced the latest addition to the very popular IXUS range in the form of the IXUS 980 IS and the IXUS 870 IS.

According to Canon's press release:

Canon’s New IXUS Digital Cameras Are In A Class Of Their Own
Introducing two new additions to the popular IXUS range, the IXUS 980 IS and IXUS 870 IS. These premium compact cameras take the popular IXUS range to new heights, incorporating even more stylish and streamlined designs. Both models feature the newly developed DiG!C 4 Image Processor providing even faster processing and natural colour reproduction. DiG!C 4 incorporates improved Face Detection including Face Detect Self Timer, Motion Detection technologies and new features including Servo AF and Intelligent Contrast Correction. A new movie function also allows longer movie recording using less memory.

The IXUS 980 IS (pictured) replaces the current 960 IS model and is expected to ship late October '08. Available in a sleek black body, it has 14.7 megapixel resolution and 3.7x optical zoom. The new DiG!C 4 image processor provides the power.

The IXUS 870 IS replaces the current 860 IS model and is also expected to hit shelves late in October. The camera features 10 megapixel resolution, a 4x optical zoom through a wide-angle 28-112mm lens. The IXUS 870 IS will be available in silver and gold.
