Alas, all good things must come to an end. The PowerShot S5IS is no longer available. However, check out the new Canon SX10 IS and Canon SX1 IS!

The PowerShot 'S' range has always been an in-house and customer favourite. We're not sure what's happened to the S4IS, but the S5IS is as feature-packed as you'd expect. Key features include:

8-megapixel resolution
12x optical zoom
Lens-shift type image stabilisation
Vari-angle (yay!), high-res 2.5-inch LCD viewer
4x AA batteries provide the power (non-rechargeable supplied)

The 12x zoom is a little behind the competition, with the Sony DSC-H7 and H9 offering 15x and the Olympus SP-550UZ with 18x, but what the Canon lacks in quantity it makes up in quality.

Consider the Canon S5 IS if you want more from your photography than a true compact can offer, but don't want the financial cost of an SLR.

Canon have today annonced the successor to the very popular PowerShot S3 IS digital camera, the PowerShot S5 IS (not sure what happened to the S4!?).
