Canon EOS 5D Mark II used to film House season finale

According to a report posted on dpreview.com, Greg Yaitanes, director of the popular "House" medial drama starring Hugh Lawrie, used a Canon EOS 5D Mark II digital SLR to film the show's season finale.

The camera was used in combination with a range of prime lenses, 24-70mm and 70-200mm lenses to create a shallow depth of field effect. Mr Yaitanes has been quoted as saying he "feels it's the future".

In keeping with this prediction, Panasonic has just announced a camcorder with micro-four thirds lens mount, so the convergence between digital SLR and video camera appears to be well under way.

Canon releases updated firmware for EOS 5D Mark II

Canon has released version 2.0.7 firmware for the EOS 5D mark II, which addresses the following issues:

Fixes a phenomenon in which the aperture exhibits abnormal movement when shooting movies in manual exposure mode and Aperture Priority AE (Av mode) using some Canon lenses (such as macro lenses).
Fixes a phenomenon in which the exposure level shown in the LCD panel differs from what is shown in the viewfinder when shooting still images in manual exposure mode.
Fixes a phenomenon in which the Wireless File Transmitter (WFT-E4 or WFT-E4 II) may not automatically power off when used for FTP transfers.

These issues are only apparent in v2.0.3 or v2.0.4 of the firmware.

Canon firmware update for EOS 5D Mark II

Canon have released an updated version of the firmware for their new EOS 5D Mark II digital SLR camera.

According to Canon, the firmware addresses two issues:

"Black dot" phenomenon (the right side of point light sources become black)
Vertical banding noise

At last! We're able to report pricing on the new Canon EOS 5D mk II... at least the recommended pricing.

Canon EOS 5D Mk II body only - $4,299
Canon EOS 5D Mk II w/ 24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens (Premium kit) - $5,799

***UPDATE***

We now have our buy prices and can confirm that the body only will retail for $3,999. The 24-105mm 'Premium Kit' will retail for $5,129.

However, stock will be extremely limited as we're expecting to receive just one or two shipments before Christmas. We strongly advise pre-ordering.
