Review : On paper the 'SW' series of Olympus cameras look good. Really good. Great in fact! A sure sign to BEWARE! I started with a 770SW. It leaked in less than 3m water (claimed 10m!). It took months to get action from Olympus in Sydney Australia for repairs. Eventually Olymp repairs sent my camera back to me which immediately came up with the 'check card cover' warning. Nothing wrong with the cover and I hadn't even gotten it near the water. Another few months and they sent me out another camera. It too leaked and they upgraded me to the 1030SW. No offer to compensate me for the months I had waited for numerous repairs to be responded to. Now the 1030SW has also leaked and as it was an upgrade by olympus they only offer a 6mnth warranty. The leakage took place 6.5 months after receiving the new 1030SW camera. This camera is the most appealing in its class but really fails to live up to its tough image. It has been admitted to me by Olympus staff that they have had alot of problems with water proofing of this line of cameras yet the seals haven't changed appreciably between the 770SW and the 1030SW...Whats the deal Olympus?!

Review : Just what I was looking for. A waterproof, virtually indestructable camera. I wasn't overjoyed with the results of the images but it is the best all rounder I know of. Only a couple of months old. Used it quite frequently under water. I checked the covers were shut properly prior to gettiing it wet, as I always did. Result - water got in?! Camera ruined completely. I was only sitting in the surf on a calm day too. Not happy and considering other models now.
[CW says: This is not a common problem, based on our experience, but, as an alternative, consider the Pentax Optio W60.]

Review : As expected a great camera, I bought the 850sw first as 1030sw was not released in time for my Maldives Holiday in March 2008, All the photo's were of good quality, both in and out of the water, it even stood up to being dropped several times, my son has this one now as a rock climber he goes through camera's regulary and is very pleased with it. I was given the 1030sw for Christmas and it goes every where with me, it has stood up to every thing I can throw at it and even the photo's I took whilst being bumped up and down in speed boat came out clear and sharp, clolours are true when put in the right scenic mode and the available light setting is great indoors or out in dull conditions, especially when you don't want your friends knowing your clicking away! Panorama feature is easy to use, but you have to have the correct xd card. all in all very happy.

Review : Predictable - ok lense with big sensor - so as long as picture in focus then can blow picture up to compensate for lense. Focus - I have used the camera 95%+ in the water and find shots in and out of focus 1 in 3 to 1 in 12 shots. Inpart I think there may often be a water drop on range finder. I have taken to frequently dipping camera when taking shots. Generally happy - it is and does what it says. Unfortuantely a bit over 50 days after buying the battery has started to leak so will let you know about warranty.

Review : First impressions are a weighty (almost 1/5th kg with battery) but sturdy feeling point and shoot camera. It's robust nature gives you faith and after a few happy snap sessions you become more then happy with it's lens and internal processing ability. I have come accross a few issues though. most revolving around Olympus's continual use of XD card technology.. Even though the camera comes bundled with a micro SD card and the latest firmware updates allow for HD SD Cards the adapter tends to rejects cards in a temperamental manor. and a big one! Panorama setting is only available to XD card users! Also occasionally colours in pictures can be a little off.. as per most point and shoot cameras on the market atm.. Great Camera Otherwise!
