We're waiting for information on the D5000 lens kits, but we can confirm that we'll be selling the Nikon D5000 body only for $1379. Stock is likely to be very difficult to source initially (as ever), so we advise placing a no-obligation pre-order to avoid long delays.

Nikon D5000 announced

Nikon has announced a new addition to their digital SLR range in the form of the D5000. Apparently sitting between the current D60 and D90 models, the D5000 will compete directly with Canon's recently announced EOS 500D, but includes one 'killer' feature in the form of a 2.7" vari-angle LCD monitor.

Other key features include:

Nikon DX-format 12.3-megapixel CMOS image sensor
Specially designed EXPEED image processing system
Live View shooting
Movie clips with D-Movie
19 Scene Modes
Scene Recognition System with Face Detection System
